Fluorite Botryoidal on MM Quartz Natural Mineral Specimen # B 4889
A broad diversity of crystal habits and colours may be found in fluorite, which can be found in practically every colour of the rainbow. This piece is a great example of this well-known material, exhibiting a sphere with a gentle golden-yellow hue resting above a Quartz crystal matrix with a little smoky colour that is slightly translucent. We must emphasise that the Quartz is crystallised, as many pieces from this locality contain Fluorite on cryptocrystalline Quartz, such as Chalcedony, rather than euhedral crystals like this one.
When backlit, the Fluorite "ball" appears to be gemmy, and it is in good shape, with only a small amount of roughness on the rear where the piece was taken from its original pocket wall setting.
