A true statement piece from the legendary copper belt of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, this large Shattuckite with Quartz on Chrysocolla specimen brings together three minerals in one dramatic, sculptural display. Measuring 13 inches wide, 11 inches tall, and 6 inches deep, the specimen forms a natural shallow bowl.Its inner face is a deep, saturated layer of dark blue Shattuckite blanketed in hundreds of sparkling, sharply terminated Quartz points that catch light from every angle. Wrapping the entire outside and back of the bowl is a vivid sky-blue to turquoise skin of Chrysocolla, so the piece displays beautifully from the front, the side, and the back. Bright blue Chrysocolla also rises along the lower front edge, partially framing a hidden inner pocket where more Quartz-coated Shattuckite continues into the hollow of the bowl, rewarding a closer look.
Shattuckite is a rare copper silicate prized by collectors for its intense royal-blue color, and specimens of this size with a full Quartz overgrowth and Chrysocolla association are increasingly hard to find.
